Some of you may have never seen a wedge pillow before. For those not familiar with this strange-looking, little bedding accessory, we will try to fill you in here.
Basically they are triangular-shaped pillows which, when used in bed, usually raise the upper portion of the body so that it is in a semi-upright position. This can provide extra support for somebody in need of posture correction, can relieve the discomfort of a particular ailment or condition, or can simply act as a prop if you like to read in bed.
The triangle shape gives the user an angled slop to rest their back and shoulders on. Its comfort level largely depends on the filling inside the cushion. Usually these days this is made of memory foam, which is an ideal material because it can be firm enough to take the weight of the body but is also soft enough to provide a surface that can be slept on for hours, without being uncomfortable. Being resistant to heat means that is also ideal for use in any climate.
You will normally use a case to cover your pillow. This can be purchased in the same bedding stores where you buy all your bedroom accessories. It is a specialist case and is designed for the cushion to slip relatively easily into it. Some will be made of high quality cotton, others of lower grade and the choice you make here will also affect the overall feel of the pillow.
If your bed rest pillow is used with a case you will find that it is quite easy to keep clean and most well-made ones should keep their shape fairly well over the course of time.
Whether you need to sleep sitting up to ease snoring, back pain or gastric reflux, one of these pillows might be worth buying.
