Learn More about Kitchen Splashbacks

Posted by Modern Homes in Kitchen

Splashbacks are kitchen fixtures that protect the kitchen walls from spills and splashes that may leave permanent stains and damage unprotected walls. Aside from their primary function of protecting the walls, these fixtures can also be used to enhance the theme and decor of the kitchen. When looking for quality splashbacks, the most sought after quality is style. Some of the materials that can be used to make a kitchen splashback include porcelain, ceramic, wood and stone kitchen tiles.

While porcelain and ceramic are elegant when used to make splashback tiles, they are very brittle and break with ease upon hard impact. Wood tiles are just as elegant as ceramic tiles; however, when matched with wooden fixtures such as wooden furniture, they can also create a traditional feel. The only disadvantage of wood is that wooden tiles usually dent easily on hard impact.

On the other hand, tiles made from stone are durable and do not chip or break easily. Granite, travertine, glazed marble and other natural stones are some of the most commonly used stones and are readily available in the market. Even with their natural colors, these stones are charming when used in any kitchen.

Can Unglazed Stone Tile be Used for Kitchen Splashbacks?

There are many stone tiles in the market, but stone tiles used for kitchen splashbacks are polished after being glazed to be resistant to any type of stain or ugly marks that may ruin the interior decor of the kitchen.

On the other hand, unglazed stone tiles do not have the necessary protection against splashes and spills, and they are not recommended for use as kitchen splashbacks. However, due to the attractive nature of unglazed stones, they can be placed above glazed tiles to accent the appearance of the kitchen walls.

In order to get the best kitchen splashback tiles, there has to be a lot of research and planning. Look for quality tiles that are durable and stylish. The quoted price should also be reasonable. Kitchen splashback tiles can be found in home improvement stores and online stores.
