Keep Your Window Privacy Film Looking Good

Posted by Modern Homes in Home

You’ve just installed your window privacy film onto your windows and you are extremely proud of what you have just accomplished. You are looking forward to enjoying the many benefits that your film has been advertised to offer. You are also determined to do whatever it takes to make sure that the film lasts as long as possible, so that it can provide you with those benefits for a longer period of time. Part of maintaining your film involves keeping it clean. In this article, I will provide a general procedure that you can use to keep your window privacy film clean and looking at its best.

Make Sure The Film Is Secured To The Window

Before you clean your window film for the first time, you need to make sure that no waiting period applies. With many types of window privacy film, you have to wait for up to 30 days before you can clean the film because you need to allow enough time for the film to develop a static charge that will keep it on the window. Cleaning the film too early may interfere with that static charge and keep the film from adhering to the window. To determine whether any waiting period applies to you, you should check with the manufacturer and read any instructions that came with the film. When in doubt, however, wait for 30 days.

Cleaning The Film

Once the waiting period has expired, you can start cleaning with a light soapy water mixture in a squirt bottle. Spray the film with the solution and gently wipe the film clean with a very soft cloth or synthetic sponge. This will remove any dirt, grease, or smudges that may have accumulated from fingerprints and the like.

Drying Your Window Privacy Film

Now that you’ve cleaned your window privacy film, it’s time to dry it. You can do this by wiping it dry with a very soft cloth. Do not use paper towels or newspapers in order to do this, as that will only scratch the film, requiring you to replace it. Do not use the same cloth that you would have used to clean the window frame or the window sill either. Also, take care that you don’t apply too much pressure to the film when you are drying it. Apply the bare minimum when it comes to drying your film.

When properly maintained, window privacy film can give you the indoor privacy that you need, and when used in conjunction with high density foam insulation, may even provide you with superior insulation during the summer and winter months. Keeping your window film clean can go a long way toward ensuring that your film continues to give you those benefits.
