How To Choose Treatments For Window Valances

Posted by Modern Homes in Home, Uncategorized

There are many ways to accentuate a pleasant decorative theme in a room, including texturally rich curtains with bold colors. Especially with window treatments valances can add further layers to them.

Valance Windows: Function and Beauty

A valance covers the top section of the window, and usually matches the curtains or closely complements them. They are used mostly for decoration; however, they can also serve to cover an upper section of a window space so that they conceal rods and hardware.

The cornice sitting on top of the curtains is attached to the wall, and is a fixed decoration. It creates a consistent top frame for the space, which is alternately opened up and closed off again by the curtain panels.

Find a fabric cornice that makes a good companion to the other fabrics in the room. These will be the curtains, throws, sofa and chair cushions, and possibly sofas. Other items to consider include pictures or paintings, and the color and design of wooden furniture.

The colors of the fabric on the windows should function to create contrast and accents in the room. Avoid choosing closely matched colors and linking them in a monotone block; the room will seem overbearing and closed in. Beautiful window treatment valances are made in silk, linen, and a variety of synthetic material blends.

Styles of Window Treatments Valances

A unique manner of construction is important when choosing valances for windows. Each make dresses up an opening differently, and is available for every type of interior design scheme.

Balloon construction, with billowing folds of fabric, is suited to most traditional décor; a treatment sewn in a Bell pattern has a more open, uniform grace and curved bottom; a Chancellor cornice is a bold showcase of the chosen fabric, ideal for contemporary designs.

Personal style will determine which window valances you choose. Settle on colors and patterns you will be happy with for years to come.
