Reclaimed wood furniture can be categorized as either old furniture that is repaired or furniture that is made using old reclaimed lumber from buildings such as barns or torn down homes. It is also an alternate method of creating furnishings that are functional, such as chairs and tables. Many designers that love the shabby chic style will use old lumber or refurbish furniture to sell or use in their own homes.

There are many antique dealers that sell reclaimed wood furniture after the pieces are repaired and refinished to bring back the old luster. Some of them hire out the work to woodworkers that are retired and excellent wood crafters. Many of these dealers turn some decent profits on these old pieces.

There are many out lets that sell reclaimed wood furniture and hardware. There you can find old hardware from magnificent homes that are generations old. There have been stories about old homes that were treasure troves because of the quality of the wood used. It is not uncommon to find hardwoods such as walnut and mahogany, which were top of the line. They built homes using wood to build magnificent wooden paneling or stairways. A farmhouse dining table is also a great option when it comes to utilizing reclaimed wood.

Reclaimed wood furniture may just require some cleaning to get it into shape. Other old pieces may need to have parts replaced by craftsmen that duplicate the parts and refit them by using glue. Then there are those that will take reclaimed lumber and make doors or cabinets and bring them to a beautiful finish. Overall, there are almost an infinite amount of possibilities when it comes to buying and fixing up reclaimed wood furniture from fixing it up yourself to hiring someone to customize your furniture for you. Using this type of furniture is a great option and should be considered when upgrading your furniture, just remember, using reclaimed lumber is very popular but can be very expensive to purchase.
