Blackout Curtains For The Complete Home Theater Experience

Posted by Modern Homes in Lighting

Many families have a passion for watching movies at home. It is now possible to replicate a real movie theater experiece in your own home with a good size HD TV, nice surround sound audio system, comfortable furniture and of course some blackout curtains. When we go to the movies one of the things we notice and enjoy is how dark it is. This is because there are no windows and the lights are first dimmed then shut off completely. It is meant to create an enjoyable and entertaining experience, to give the screen complete focus. Total darkness gets the audience in the mood to relax and enjoy a enhancing their movie watching experience. Besides setting the mood, once the lights turn off people immediately quiet down and focus on the screen. To have a cinema in your own home, finding a solution to blockout outside light coming through the windows is one of the top three most important things to transform your living room to a true cinema.

The best thing you can do is try to hide the windows completely. Covering just the window wouldn’t be sufficient enough because light can still shine in through the sides. What I mean by hiding the window is to cover the entire wall that the window is on by hanging the curtain from the ceiling to the floor and from wall to wall. This will look very nice because it will give a stage or theatrical appearance. Your goal is to have a pitch dark room at any time of the day and this is only achievable if you use 100% blackout curtains. The good news is that you can find some that are lined and  specifically designed for this purpose .

Some might immediately think that they would need to get a black color but that is not at all necessary. There are a variety of dark and soft colors that can still darken up a room as much as possible as long as they were designed to do so. There is no reason why every homeowner can’t make their own home cinema. The things you need are quite basic. When you are ready to create one in your basement, the guest house or even the garage getting the right blackout curtain will only take a fraction of the budget.
