3 Ways to Use Kitchen Space More Efficiently

Posted by Modern Homes in Kitchen

Chances are most of us do not have kitchens that we feel are large enough for the amount of cooking we want to do. Lack of space to prepare food and eat food can be frustrating, and feeling cluttered in the kitchen can make us simply not want to use it anymore. Here are three ways to use your kitchen space more effectively, and get more use out of it than you may expect.

The first thing to do is, if you don’t have one already, get a small drop leaf table to use if you have your table in the kitchen. Drop leaf tables are the easiest way to add a little bit of space to your home. You can set up the leaves to make room for quite a few people to eat, and when you’re done you can just break it down and reclaim most of the space that it was just using up. It’s the simplest way to open up the room, so if space is a problem, you have no excuse not to have one.

You also want to keep your counter space clear, as a cluttered counter can make a kitchen feel smaller than it actually is. For one week, try clearing absolutely everything off your counter if you’re not using it. Clear away the dish soap when you’re done with dishes, put the toaster in the lower cabinets, and even put away the knife block. You’ll probably find at the end of the week that your counter is easier to use than you thought.

Finally, if you have the ability, think about getting smaller appliances or cabinets. Bulky, square furniture in the kitchen eats up space, and even reducing the sizes by 10% or 20% will leave you with more breathing space. You may not be in a position where you can consider this, but if you are, then do so.

From adding a drop leaf table to taking out the toaster, these tips will allow you to use your kitchen without feeling like you’re going to bump your elbow on everything. Good luck with your remodeling!
